Greetings, Project Esperanza community!
We hope that this email finds you happy and healthy. We wanted to send you a quick update as to the most recent of our volunteer activities and to invite any and all who are interested to come join us for spring and summer volunteer programs.
Although the winter is not our busiest volunteer season, Project Esperanza has stayed busy in the Munoz and Puerto Plata communities. Recently, the Padre Granero school moved to a new, big, and better location with more space- which makes a huge difference on the quality of their education! We are trying to purchase the school, and are still fundraising to cover the costs. If at all interested in donating or hosting a fundraiser, contact us! The number of students at the United Brothers School in Munoz has grown in recent months. We now have about 50 students in the school and have developed a transportation program in order to get students from the more removed communities to attend school. As you all already know, we have a sponsorship program for our students at Padre Granero and in Munoz, contact us if you want to get involved!
We recently began giving English classes to any interested children in the Munoz area three times a week, as well as English classes to the teachers in the Padre Granero community. Individuals staying at local hostels and hotels have gotten plugged into Project Esperanza and have been helping out in teaching classes and getting involved in the community! Our Free Trade Art Shop has still been up and running, with beautiful jewelry and artwork for sale in the store as well as in our online store. Check out our online store for the latest designs from our local artists: http://esperanzameanshope.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cfd9d789edd9d3ee7dd00ccb6&id=a8ab2665be&e=dee132bb6b
In the upcoming future, we have our sights set on building several human compost toilets in the community as well as developing further our recycling program in Munoz. In Padre Granero, the recycling project has been quite successful and students have been learning about recycling, gathering recyclables, and taking them to a factory in Santiago that purchases and recycles them. It´s our hope to get this started in Munoz as well as a form of sustainable income.
Looking forward to the exciting spring and summer ahead of us, we still have room for volunteers looking for a fun and worthwhile way to spend time in our gorgeous Carribean sunshine. Currently, we don´t have any more spots for the second week in March, but inquire with us for any other week for spring break to come and volunteer! You can get involved in English classes, eco-construction projects, recycling projects, help in the art shop, and musical or artistic activities with the students in our schools.
We also still have spots open for our summer English immersion camp, ¨Cambia Mis Estrellas!¨ Reserve your spot before we get all filled up! Our students are already looking forward to it.
Also, check out our most recent blog about all ongoing activities in Munoz: PEinMunoz@blogspot.com
Sending you a lot of sunshine and love from our warm community in the Dominican Republic!
